Autumn in Cornwall is a quieter time fewer crowds, moody skies, dramatic seas and that golden foliage glow inland. Many attractions run Halloween- or harvest-themed events. Here are a few ideas for you and your guests to do this half term.

Gardens, nature & walking –The Lost Gardens of Heligan
One of Cornwall’s botanical jewels, Heligan is lovely in autumn, with wild corners, colourful foliage and seasonal interest. Even on a grey day it feels atmospheric.
From 18–24 October, Heligan marks the harvest with tastings, demos, garden tours, and hands-on skills like onion stringing, seed saving, dried flower arranging, plus a first look at traditional charcoal making. From 25 October–2 November, Heligan turns spooky with Cornish folklore, potion and wand making, a Wise Witches of Nature trail, and fireside marshmallow toasting.

Treat yourself to the Wickedly Witchy Afternoon Brew, an enchanting afternoon tea that’s brimming with seasonal magic. Expect bewitching blends of fragrant herbs, a sprinkle of mystical spices, and a selection of themed delights that feel like a true autumn potion. Sip, savour, and let each cup weave its spell… but keep your eyes peeled, as a mischievous witch may be wandering the infamous Headland Hotel.
The ‘Spooktacular’ at Bedruthan Steps, where Families and friends alike are invited to enter the magical immersive experience. Think more golden glows, cauldrons and a little surprise. A celebration of autumn without the fright of ghouls and ghosts. Followed by a relaxed take on a spooky themed cream tea.

Keep the plans simple and get out in nature this autumn
Tehidy Woods and Cardinham Woods are great for crisp woodland walks, spotting squirrels or red deer, and bracing fresh air. On the coast, the South West Coast Path everywhere offers changing views as the season darkens. The beaches are quieter, the weather is milder. But there’s plenty to discover.
Theatre in the Woods – Rogue Otherworld
If you haven’t been yet, this is must! Rogue Otherworld produce immersive theatre in Tehidy Woods, this Halloween welcomes the “Dead of Night” in Tehidy Woods. Expect magic, music, frights, delights.

Cinema & indoor rainy-day options
Even in Cornwall, you’ll want some backup plans for rainy afternoons. Look out for local cinemas in towns (e.g. Truro, Newquay, Penzance) many show half-term family screenings.
Why not remind your guests that they can also make the most of their chosen cottage for the break. Your Smart TV will allow guests to set up a fun auditorium in the living room. Snacks will be ready. The wood burner will be on. Everyone can come together to stream a movie.
